Suicide is a serious public health problem that can have lasting harmful effects on individuals, families, and communities. While its causes are complex and determined by multiple factors, the goal of suicide prevention is simple: Reduce factors that increase risk (i.e. risk factors) and increase factors that promote resilience (i.e. protective factors). Ideally, prevention addresses all levels of influence: individual, relationship, community, and societal. The report also stated that Lewis “has a special handling historical classification of ‘mentally disturbed’, ‘suicidal’ …” -NBC

Another tragic tale that could have easily been prevented. Had there been a facility or a program for people suffering with mental illness, many of these cases would be avoided.

Deaths caused by suicide have surpassed deaths caused by car crashed. People suffering are not getting the care they need to become healthy individuals.
