Truth Be Told With Lucinda Bassett- Symptoms, Fears, and Concerns

There are a host of physical symptoms associated with anxiety disorder. Some of the more common symptoms would include:

  • Strong episodes of anxiousness and panicky feelings
  • Racing heart and chest discomfort
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Feelings of bewilderment and unreality
  • Inner nervousness
  • Scary, uncontrollable thoughts
  • Nausea, upset stomach, diarrhea
  • Hot and cold flashes
  • Numbness or strange aches and pains, muscle tension
  • Feelings of depression or hopelessness
  • Restless feelings, insomnia, or sleeping too much
  • Difficulty in breathing (hyperventilation)
  • Uncontrollable bouts of anger

People who suffer with anxiety disorder tend to worry and obsess about some or all of the following:

  • Having a heart attack
  • Going insane
  • Losing control
  • Embarrassment
  • Death
  • Illness
  • Hurting themselves or someone else
  • Fainting
  • Difficulty in breathing

The irony here is that these fears actually create the above symptoms and the above symptoms can create these fears.

Truth Be Told With Lucinda Bassett- Personality Traits and Anxiety

Anxious people share certain types of personality traits, which are responsible for a good deal of their anxiety. Such people are often analytical worriers who dwell on things and obsess about their fears. They want things to be a certain way and have extremely high expectations. As a result, they are often disappointed and anxious. Winning the approval of others is important to them, and at all costs they must appear to be in control.

Baby Steps- From guest blogger Linda Hoenigsberg

One of my favorite movies of all time is “What About Bob,” directed by Frank Oz and starring Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss.  It came out in 1991, which means almost twenty years had passed between my first panic attack, and the agoraphobia and many single phobias that developed soon after.  I had had lots of time to practice overcoming my fears.  And, a lot of time to look back and find the whole thing just a little bit funny.
