The success and survival of Lucinda Bassett: The story behind Truth Be Told

President of The Midwest Center For Stress and Anxiety, Lucinda Bassett is a nationally acclaimed motivational speaker and best-selling author of From Panic to Power and Life Without Limits. Her life-changing techniques have been shared with a variety of major corporations such as AT&T, and McDonalds, and professional associations such as LPGA and the AIDS Foundation, as well as many educational institutions. She has appeared on hundreds of national radio and television programs including Oprah, The View, Live with Regis and Kelly, and Robert Schuller’s Hour of Power. Bassett and her emotional wellness solutions have been featured in a variety of high-profile publications including Health, Family Circle, Cosmopolitan, and the Journal of Clinical Psychology. She lives in Los Angeles, CA.
Just a few years ago, Lucinda Bassett’s husband and partner of 25 years took his own life after enduring years struggling with mental illness. Within a matter of months she lost her brother, then, unbelievably, she lost her mother. In the midst of the grief that seemed to have no end, she was forced to sell her business during an economic downturn. In this gripping memoir, Lucinda identifies that the familiar cycle of guilt, blame, anger, and shame she experiences following each loss is rooted back deeply into her childhood, and the years growing up, throughout her development into womanhood.   Her story is one of courage, pain, and perseverance. Always the “fixer,” living her life going from “one 911 crisis to another” she discovers that she still had to heal herself and come to grips with the darkest parts of her childhood. The powerful realizations that her hidden truths have remained concealed are at once wrenching and then liberating. This public figure, whose professional life has been built on being a model of strength and guidance for others found that the only way to turn was inward before being able to move herself and her children forward. Her story is relatable, transforming, and inspiring.
